HISTORY
The New St. John M.B. Church was founded sometime during the 1950’s. The original structure was wooden and stood were the current parking lot is located. The wooden structure was later replaced by the brick structure (all except the current annex at the rear end of the building). Mother Willie Mae Smith donated the land for the new church.
The first Pastor was Reverend B.T. Smith and 1st Lady Willie Mae Smith. At that time, the church had two Deacons - Deacon Doc Kitchen and Deacon Smith. The church’s Mother Board consisted of Mother Ely and Mother Nettie Smith. The membership at that time consisted of 5 – 6 members.
After the passing of Reverend Smith, the Reverend Harold B. Dixon was called to service. Under his leadership, several Deacons were ordained - Deacons Jack Lawrence, Henry Mays, Freddie Williams, Deacon Effie, Robert Jackson, Jerry Buckles, Richard Parrish and Deacon McMillan. Mother Feebee Jane Buckles was added to the Mother’s Board and the church received an Associate Pastor, the Reverend Rudolph M. Anderson, Sr.
After the passing of Rev. Dixon, the church called Reverend H.M. Whites, Sr. as pastor. Under his leadership, two more Deacons were ordained - Deacon Sammie Solomon and Deacon Forris Walker. Mother Mary Dixon was added to the Mother’s Board. The church was in deep sorrow upon the retirement of Reverend Whites and the Reverend Rudolph M. Anderson, Sr. was called to serve as pastor for the church.
Under Reverend Anderson’s leadership, ordination services were conducted for Minister Barbara Powell and Minister Rudolph M. Anderson, Jr. Minister Powell served as Assistant Minister and Reverend Rudolph M. Anderson, Jr. serves as Associate Minister. The Mother’s Board added three Mothers - 1st Lady Marjorie Anderson, Mother Alfreda Williams and Mother Juanita Washington.
Over the years the church has added new members and has undergone several improvements to the interior and exterior of the building, without having to incur any loans. The Usher Board has been under the leadership of Sister Para Lee Jenkins, Sister Carolyn Johnson and Mother Veronica Anderson. The Adult Choir has had several Presidents to include Minister Barbara Powell, Sister Dorothy Solomon, Mother Alfreda Williams, Sister Jeanette Brown and Sister Teryl Davis.

In July of 2011, Reverend Anderson left this world to await the rapture. The church had been blessed to have such illustrious Pastors who only left their position after God called them home. The search was on. Deacon Freddie Williams, Chairman of the Deacon Board and directed by God received numerous application packets from several ministers. The packets were shared with the congregation and the applicants were given the opportunity to conduct worship services, teach Sunday School and Bible Study.
In December 2011, the decision was made by the congregation. In January 2012, Bishop Eugene R. Collier, III was called to lead the New St. John church. His installation service was held March 11, 2012. Since his arrival, Bishop Collier has presented his vision for the church. The Pastor’s wife, Lady Kimberly Collier and the Pastor’s mother, Mother Hazel Collier joined the Mother’s Board. In addition three new Mothers have been consecrated to that ministry, Mother Emma Cooper, Mother Ola Mae Solomon and Mother Shirley Williams. Deacon Levon Cooper has also been ordained. In 2016 Rev. Barbara Powell was elected as the Assistant Pastor
